About

Kelsey Banas Headshot

Kelsey Banas is a broadcast journalist, reporter and writer with a special interest in entertainment.

She expresses her vast knowledge of the entertainment industry among those who are eager to learn more. Her keen perspective and experience in a variety of fields including pop culture, hard news and sports reporting makes her a notable success.

While Kelsey has cultivated an infinite love of pop culture since growing up, instead of studying she would watch E!’s Red Carpet and memorize who everyone was wearing. Her real strength is her ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and the way she can make someone she just met feel as if they are talking to an old friend. From interviewing College GameDay’s DJ Babi Mac or Late Night Host Seth Meyers, Kelsey knows how to spark dialogues that are engaging and relevant.

Background: Born and raised in Long Grove, Illinois, Kelsey’s outgoing personality and continuous drive to reach her dreams has helped her maintain an active presence in the entertainment and journalism industry since the age of 17, when she secured her first internship at a radio station, Star 105.5 as a Promotions intern. With the ambition to work harder, Kelsey helped create an on-air segment “Walk The Red Carpet.” From there, Kelsey worked consistently throughout college, landing positions in news and media: WLNS Channel 6 News in Michigan as a News intern and ending up in Los Angeles at Magical Elves Production Company as a Development intern. While working at Magical Elves Production Company, Kelsey worked under Head of Casting, Samantha Hanks and helped in the casting process of #DanceBattle America.

Even in a high school of 4,000 students, she still found a way to make a name for herself. Kelsey started her broadcast career early by reporting for the morning announcements at Adali E. Stevenson High School and moved onto Michigan State University with a major in broadcast journalism. Getting involved as much as possible, Kelsey created the VIM Report for VIM Magazine, the student-run fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazine. Kelsey brought the magazine to life in YouTube videos consisting of fashion trends and talking to people on the street of who wore it better. She also was able to write and blog about her internship experience at Magical Elves for VIM Magazine. Kelsey anchored and reported for MSU&U Telecasters, a student-run news program reporting on the most up-to-date events and news happening at MSU and in East Lansing.
